Materials Science and Engineering
General Information
Materials Science includes a detailed research of the relations between micro structures of materials such as metal, ceramic, glass, polymer and their features. And materials engineering covers the process of designing and production steps in order to achieve the pre-determined specifications using the existing this micro structure specification relation. Despite the huge improvements in materials science and engineering discipline recently, much more detailed research is needed to improve the higly qualified materials taking notice of the effects of material production on the environment
The first Materials Science and Engineering department was planned in a way to include phsical mettalurgy, ceramic materials, electronic materials and polymer departments at the Gebze Institute of Technology. Our department have the opportunities of labs which were formed according to international standards and contains staff who are experts in their fields with their PhD and Post PhD degrees completed abroad. (The USA and England) There is undergraduate, graduate and Phd education in our department.
Materials Science and Engineering Department, pursue its studies towards researching the existing engineering materials specifications and enhancing new engineering materials. Our department with its undergraduate, graduate and Phds education mainly aims to be internationally accepted higher education institute, which is leader in its field.
Besides that, Nano-Materials Research Center and Aliminum Research and Application Center was founded in the departent with the support of State Planning Organization.
Research in department labs are pursued connected with SPO,TUBİTAK and private sector, supported nationally and foreign founded with the European Union 6th frame program.
