General Information
GTU Computer Engineering Department carries out academic and technological studies on the computer technologies and applications areas which is one of the modern world’s most important development fields.,
In our department, we aim to train creative and productive computer scientists and researchers who are well qualified with the computer and information systems with the ability to shape the information age that we live in. Therefore we are training engineers that set up business instead of those that just look for jobs.
As a department our vision is to qualified Academician, rapidly developing research and teaching by using the infrastructure, in cooperation with industry and Government agencies, educating engineers and researchers sought at the global level in the field of ve with our scientific academic studies in the field of computer science and engineering yönlendirebilmektir.
The Department of Computer Engineering aims to educate engineers and researchers to be qualified enough to be sought at the global level by the help of qualified academic staff , using fast developing research and teaching infrastructure and being in collaboration with private and public companies in industry and other economic sectors. The department also to initiate and pursue research at the cutting edge of computer science and technology both at the theoretical and application levels.
On the theoretical side, the department focuses on algorithms, programming languages, information security and encryption issues; while on the application side, client - server systems, electronic commerce, databases, software development, interface design, security applications, system design and industrial process control are emphasized.
Within the section, solutions research is being done at the points of software industry technically , works for the settlement of the policy to reduce the dependence on export of software industry country wide
GTU Computer Engineering Department is given a significant preference by students because of its high quality research programs and publications, and also of its rich curriculum. Another reason for this preference is the location of GTU, which is at the epicenter of the developing Turkish industry. In addition, students are actively encouraged for academic publications which enhance their analysis and synthesis capabilities.
The department has Erasmus Bilateral Agreements (with EPITA (France) and UPC (Spain). These agreements provide the successful students the opportunity to study abroad up to one year.
Objectives
A successfull engineer should be knowledgeable and experinced enough to analyse and define real life problems as well as to formulate solutions and apply and test the defined solutions for these problems . In this regard our department aims to educate talented computer engineers with the following skills;
* To define and analyse engineering problems by applying mathematical, scientific and engineering knowledge they obtained.
*To perform systems design, maintenance and development to solve the problem and to meet the requirements
*To excel in using different techniques and modern equipment for engineering applications.
*To design and conduct experiments to test the applications , as well as to analyze and interpret data
* To continuously develop their knowledge and skills in order to adapt to a rapidly developing technological environment

* Computer Vision: Camera calibration, detection of 3-dimensional shapes using stereo, shading and texture, motion analysis and object tracking, objects recognition and confirmation .
* Human computer interaction: interface design, multimedia, software and hardware ergonomics.
* Information communication networks: System design, implementation, research, and analysis. Information communication networks: System design, implementation, research, and analysis.
* Information security: security analysis and solutions, biometric scanner systems, openness to penetrate detection systems, security.
* Control and Robotics: industrial control, robot control, intelligent systems design process control.
* Distributed simulation systems: design and development, performance analysis, HLA and applications.
* High performance Computing: industrial and scientific applications, software and hardware design and development, performance analysis.

Our graduates have the background to build a career on various engineering or research / development areas related to computer and information systems. They can work in all kinds of organizations using information systems. Our graduates are strong candidates for the following positions: software engineer, information system expert, system analyst and programmer, database administrator, system and network administrator, network programmer, computer graphic development expert, software counselor, information technology manager.
Computer Engineering graduates can hold a position in the private or the public sector in Turkey, as well as in many other countries including USA and Europe.

In this laboratory, research,set up,and analysis of data communication Networks and design of general purpose systems systems for these types of applications are the basic tasks done in the lab. Besides, information security solutions are developed.

Computer vision, graphics, and human-computer interaction Laboratory
In this laboratory software and systems for computer vision aided industrial applications are carried out. Besides, human-computer interaction-based industrial automation and quality control software is improved.

Robotics and Control Lab
Hi-tech software and hardware development for applications such as Industrial Control, Robotics Control, and Intelligent Systems Design is performed in this lab. Industrial applications of the parallel computer system in the Institute are also performed.

High Performance Computing Lab
Software and hardware development for high performance requiring industrial applications is performed in this lab. Design and construction of general purpose systems for this kind of applications are carried out.
*Parallel System with 8+1 Nodes (Linux Operating System).
Defence Technologies and Software Development Lab
Distributed Simulation Systems, Defence Applications and Software Development for these applications are performed in this lab. There are 6 application development work-stations.
In the research laboratories researchers are provided with climate-controlled private working environment called cubical for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
