Teaching Objectives and Learning Outcomes

 

Program Teaching Objectives (TO)

TO1- To equip students with the ability to evaluate concepts, ideas, and data in the field of Chemistry using scientific methods, apply them to complex problems and topics, analyze them, and develop evidence-based recommendations (FEDEK I, II, III)

TO2- To educate graduates who are conscious of occupational health and safety and environmental issues, capable of taking responsibility in potential problems they may encounter in the future, and able to generate fast and effective solutions, possessing experience and self-confidence (FEDEK III, X, XI)

TO3- To educate graduates who keep up with the latest developments in the field of chemistry by having at least one foreign language proficiency, accessing current information, and effectively utilizing library and/or electronic resources (FEDEK V, VIII, IX)

TO4- o educate graduates who possess professional competence and scientific ethical awareness, effectively utilize oral and written communication tools, and are capable of generating R&D and product development projects (FEDEK VIII, X)

TO5- To educate graduates who can effectively utilize their knowledge and skills in chemistry and interdisciplinary fields, both individually and in team collaborations, and are capable of assuming leadership roles when necessary (FEDEK IV, VII, X)

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, students will be able to:

Knowledge
1. Have fundamental knowledge of chemistry

Skills

2. Identify the fundamental concepts and laws of chemistry in theory and practice

3. Use principles and laws of chemistry in solving universal problems

4. Apply mathematical and quantitative skills to solve chemical problems

5. Evaluate ideas and data in the field of chemistry using scientific methods, and develop evidence-based recommendations through research and analysis

6. Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of chemistry to advanced work in the chemical industry

7. Develop experimental designs, analyze data, and utilize classical techniques and modern instruments to investigate and interpret the structural properties of materials and their relationships

8. Communicate scientific information effectively through written reports, oral presentations, and graphical representations, using appropriate scientific language and conventions

9. Learn how to analyze and interpret information, and apply it in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields

10. Apply occupational safety principles for the safe use, disposal, and minimization of the environmental impact of chemical substances on a global scale.

11. Understand, interpret, and conceptualize chemical-based events and phenomena

Competence

12. Effectively utilize knowledge and skills in chemistry and interdisciplinary fields, both individually and in team collaborations, and demonstrate leadership capabilities when necessary

13. Adapt to rapidly changing technological environments with a lifelong learning mindset, and keep up with advancements in science and technology

14. Access the required information and enhance existing knowledge

15. Effectively use Turkish and English, both orally and in writing, to follow the literature and present ideas and findings related to the research topic

16. Use computers for chemical calculations, molecular modeling, data acquisition, and retrieving from databases 

17. Follow developments in fields such as environment, pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, paints, and healthcare in the field of chemistry, and solve basic problems in research and development laboratories related to these areas

18. Have a sense of professional, scientific ethics, and responsibility

19.  Have awareness of the social and global impacts of processes in the field of chemistry
