Cem Bülent ÜSTÜNDAĞ, Professor, YILDIZ TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

Dr. Ustundag is a professor in the Bioengineering Department of Yildiz Technical University (YTU). He holds dual Ph.D. degrees in materials science and engineering from YTU, Turkey, and in biomaterials from Tohoku University, Japan. Dr. Ustundag's research focuses on nanomaterials for biomedical applications, graphene synthesis, tissue engineering, and environmental remediation. He has authored/co-authored numerous research papers, review articles, books, book chapters, patents, and conference papers. He has consulted for biomed companies and received several awards and grants, including the RONPAKU Award and Erasmus+ KA 226 Digital Education Readiness project grant.

This talk delves into our research utilizing 3D printing for the fabrication of biocompatible constructs, addressing the critical need for advancements in personalized medicine and regenerative therapies. We will provide a detailed examination of how 3D printing facilitates the development of customized scaffolds for neural, skin, and cartilage tissue engineering, alongside tumor dressings designed for targeted drug delivery in cancer treatment. Furthermore, the creation of biocompatible wound dressings tailored for diabetic ulcers will be explored. The presentation will also encompass cutting-edge micro-needle-based scaffolds and drug delivery systems. Through a rigorous analysis of the findings and implications of these innovations, the research underscores their potential to fundamentally transform biomedical practice. This interdisciplinary approach not only emphasizes the versatility of 3D printing but also solidifies its central role in propelling the field of biomedicine forward, offering promising avenues for the development of patient-specific treatments and regenerative therapies.
