Rector’s Message
Dear students,
These times are the most important part of your educational life. Now that you have got your university entrance exam results, you are about to make a choice from among many universities and hundreds of programs to study and proceed on your career path.
While reviewing the options for your university selection, including social life, scholarship opportunities and exchange programs, your priority should be to identify the place where you can get the best education.
Just at this point, you will see that Gebze Technical University, the young but experienced university of Turkey and the future hub for science in the country with its academic staff and well-supported organizational structure, is one step ahead. Built upon the foundations of Gebze Institute of Technology established 1992 and inheriting its 22 years of experience, Gebze Technical University was established in 2014 with the parliament act dated 4 November 2014 of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Approaching its 25th anniversary yet, Gebze Technical University has achieved to be listed the fifth in “Top Universities in Turkey” ranking based on the criteria including the total number of academic papers published, the number of citations per academician, and the number of students per academician, leaving behide the most established universities in Turkey.
You, as the new members of our family, will realize that you are in a truly different world as soon as you step onto the GTU campus. You will understand that you are privileged and having the best education in an atmosphere where the vast majority of faculty members hold PhD degrees from renowned universities in the US and UK, and the number of students per academician is 4. You will have the opportunity to find a job while you are a student at GTU, which is located at the heart of the industry right beside 35 R&D centers, 18 industrial zones and 8 technology development zones. With the scholarships we offer, we will support you while you study at GTU.
Our university is literally a “breathing campus” with the its flora and fauna accomodating more than forty bird species and many other inhabitants. We offer all our students bicycles free of charge so that they can experience the nice environment. In addition, with hundreds of events organized by more than forty student clubs in total at our university, you will have the chance to meet the world-renowned professionals and pioneers such as the Nobel Prize winner Professor Aziz Sancar from the world of science, and others from the world of culture, arts, and sports.
Making our students life easier in terms of social benefits and opportunities is one of our main policies. We also help students meet their clothing needs free of charge at the “Young Boutique” shop at our university.

Gebze Technical University has taken its own place within these dynamics and was listed as “The Most Entrepreneurial University” in the ranking of the Entrepreneurial University Index 2015 from among the “Universities without Technoparks”. As a university with such experience, we look forward the turning the courage in you as students into entrepreneurship, the sense of curiosity into research, and the creativity into innovation. I hope that our university, listed among the four Turkish universities with an incubation center in Silicon Valley, which is one of the strongest partners of the IT Valley as one of our country’s biggest investments, will help us go beyond the limits.
