General Information

Studies carried out in our laboratory concern the research on Photodynamic therapy (PDT) that is used in recent years with increasing interest for the treatment of some diseases. We aimed in our studies to determine appropriate photosensitizer (phthalocyanines) that are suitable for photodynamic therapy. Also we aimed to develop effective delivery systems for photosensitizer such as nanoparticules.
The aim of another our recent research concern the conjugation of enzyme/prodrug systems with nanoparticles and investigation of suitability of combination of these systems with photodynamic therapy.
Our goals are;
1. Investigating photodynamic therapy effects on the cell death mechanisms and in the cell cycle: for this purpose we use novel photosynthesizers that are synthesized in Chemistry Department of our Faculty.
2. Developing carrier systems such as nanoparticles that provide easy uptake by cancer cells.
3. Developing enzyme/prodrug systems administered on cancer cells.
4. Supporting and teaching Master and PhD Students.
