Effective Communication For A Quality Life

A Communication Summit was recently organized at GTU in order to increase the quality of our lives and to propose practical solutions for the problems that occur during relations we establish with others.

At the summit carried out with the joint organization of GTU's Career Development Center (KAGEM) and Entrepreneurship and Career Planning Society (GİKAP), expert trainers from "Dönüşüm Konağı Psychology of Success Institute" provided trainings.  On the first day of the summit, topics such as Experiential Design Doctrine, Communication and Types of Communication, The Art of Getting to Know People, and the Mysterious Opposites Law were covered. And on the second day of the summit, training on topics including General Communication Strategies, Mistakes in Communication, Mind Filters in Communication, Paying for One's Mistakes in Communication, 3-Dimensional Communication with Expectations, and Public Speaking was provided.

"Mastering communication means mastering life"

Assoc. Prof. Meral Elçi, GTU Faculty Member, Career Center Director, and the Head of GİKAP, stated that our ability to communicate determines the quality of our lives and that mastering communication skills actually means mastering life skills. Remarking that they organized such a summit with the motto "Communication is for all of us", Elçi remarked that we need to improve ourselves in this field in order to understand the people we communicate with and ourselves.

At the event, which gathered considerable attention from GTU's academic and administrative staff, students and the guests, it was highlighted that a happy life for people is only possible through quality communication. Stating that their goal is to reach out to people, provide them with information about communication and help them make positive changes in their lives, the experts at the event highlighted that communication is not simply talking but conveying the messages in the outer world into our inner world in a consistent, useful, comprehensible and practical way, and vice versa.

"Be careful with communication accidents"

Stating that reading between the lines and having an awareness of the current situation and acting accordingly is a successful method of communication, the trainers said that our grandfathers and grandmothers, who sometimes tell us what to do and what not do with just a look in their eye, are actually secret masters of communication. Pointing out to the fact that sometimes just a smile is enough for the communication to happen, the trainers said: "Communication happens when we fully perceive the person we are talking to, otherwise "communication accidents" become inevitable. Most of these accidents happen because we see the person we are talking with as just a person who is ready to take what we say. We should remember that how we say something is more important than what we say in the first place. We should discover how to put our thougts into words by considering that a person's ability to communicate may be more developed in one of the fields of visual, auditory, and tactile skills. We should also note that the capacity to perceive determines the quality of transfer, the better we perceive, the better we can convey our message, and carry out the communication process in a successful way."

At the end of the two-day summit, the participants were awarded their certificates.
