GTU Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Erasmus+ with Sports Activities
GTU took its place in the European Week of Sport's #beactive campaign as the national coordinator of Turkey with Erasmus+ 30th Anniversary Celebrations and #butterflygames. The campaign is a European Commission Initiative that seeks to encourage sports and physical activity around Europe. As it is the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ Programme, which aims to increase the education quality of higher education institutions in Europe with cultural interactions, thanks to the events held at the same time in Europe, the fact that we all need to spend more time on physical activity was reminded one more time. Proving that people can be active wherever they are and organized in order to encourage people to do more sports, the European Week of Sport became a source of inspiration for physical activity.
As part of the Butterfly Games at GTU, sports activities including zumba, yoga, volleyball, basketball, ergometer rowing, running race, cycling tour and kite flying were carried out. At the zumba session with Zumba Instructor Gamze Acat, both GTU's academic and administrative staff and students had the chance to do sports and have fun at the same time.
"THERE CAN BE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT DOING SPORTS"
Prof. Işıl Kurnaz, Director to Institute of Biotechnology and Erasmus Coordinator at GTU, commented: "On the occasion of European Week of Sport, we would like to express that we support sports and physical activity. Saying you are not physically ready for it or you are too old for it is no excuse for us. Whatever age you are, I recommend doing physical activities regularly."
At the end of the running race held on the second day of the Butterfly Games, the winners were awarded their medals by GTU Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün and Vice Rector Prof. Babür Özçelik. The winners are as follows:
