High school students find the opportunity to discuss everything about Artificial Intelligence (AI) with GTU academics at the "Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and Education" panel.

At the panel titled "Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and Education," organized by Gebze Technical University (GTU) Social Impact Coordination Office and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism's Çayırova District Public Library, GTU academics met with students from Çayırova 15 July Martyrs High School. Çayırova District Governor Ahmet Önal, Çayırova District Public Library Director Özgür Akgün, GTU Social Impact Coordinator and Adviser to the Rector Prof. Dr. Meral Elçi, academics, and students attended the panel held at the Çayırova District Public Library.

The general coordination was undertaken by Asst. Prof. Dr. Fatma Karaoğlu Ceyhan from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science at GTU, with Dr. Yavuz Selim Balcıoğlu, Lecturer at the Department of Management Information Systems, Faculty of Business Administration at GTU, serving as the moderator. During the panel, Dr. Tülay Ayyıldız from the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at GTU, discussed the mathematical foundations of computers and artificial intelligence, emphasizing that models referred to as artificial intelligence are actually mathematical equations. He explained how topics taught in high school such as logic, probability, and sets play a role in machine learning. Lecturer Doğa Nalcı from the Cyber Security Vocational School at GTU talked about the journey of librarianship from the past to the present and the role of technology in it. He also mentioned that teachers and students can effectively utilize tools like ChatGPT and derivative software in their educational processes without fear. Furthermore, he touched upon artificial intelligence models developed at Gebze Technical University. Dr. Seyit Rıza Tiğrek approached artificial intelligence epistemologically, emphasizing that intelligence is not specific to machines, but rather algorithms generated by human intelligence are computed by machines. He discussed the evolution that education and teaching need to undergo and stressed the importance of us being producers, not just users, of artificial intelligence.

During the question-and-answer session that followed the panel, seeing a number of questions from the students, Çayırova District Governor Ahmet Önal requested an extension of the event and encouraged the continuation of students' questions. After the panel, students had the opportunity to directly address their vocational and academic questions to the academicians and receive answers from them.

At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Meral Elçi, GTU Social Impact Coordinator and Adviser to the Rector, thanked Çayırova District Public Library Director Özgür Akgün for their collaboration and hospitality.
