FLIGHT: Innovative Drone Technology in Future Vocational Training

"Innovative Use of Drone Technology in Future Vocational Training" (FLIGHT) project, to be implemented with the support of Erasmus+ EU, has been announced among the projects to be supported by the European Union and the Turkish National Agency. In this project, in which Gebze Technical University (GTU) is a partner, a team led by Prof. Dr. Selçuk Toprak will include Prof. Dr. Banu Çetin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Balçık, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Yağcı, and Research Assistant Oğuz Dal.

This international collaboration with partners from different countries such as Darıca District Directorate of National Education (Coordinator-Türkiye), General Directorate of Gaziantep Water and Sewerage Administration-GASKİ (Türkiye), Sucessos Criativos, Lda (Portugal), DSU-RCSOO Kiro Burnaz (Macedonia), Stredna priemyselna skola stavebna (Slovakia), and Training 2000 psc (Italy) aims to equip vocational training instructors and students with innovative drone technology skills and thus prepare them for the job market.

The FLIGHT project aims to integrate practical drone technology skills into vocational training programs, especially in areas such as disaster response, agriculture, construction, and environmental monitoring, to achieve sustainable outcomes compatible with the requirements of Industry 4.0. Among the activities to be carried out during the project are the development of the FLIGHT KIT, training programs for vocational training instructors, and the establishment of the FLIGHT Resource Center.

As part of the project, various outputs will be produced for vocational training instructors and students, including a unique FLIGHT Kit offering hands-on drone learning, special training programs, local workshop sessions, a multilingual training handbook, and lesson plans. Communication and dissemination activities are also planned for the project.

With this project, it is aimed to make vocational training more attractive and contribute to environmental sustainability by providing skills and competencies related to drone technology in line with Europe's digital transformation goals. Thus, the potential of drone technology in environmental monitoring and sustainability efforts will be more effectively utilized.
