Marmara Municipalities Union announces the winning researchers to supported under its Doctoral Dissertation Support Program for the year 2024. Research Assistant Süleyman Şişman from  GTU's Department of Geomatics Engineering becomes entitled to receive support.

With the aim of disseminating solution proposals produced through scientific research on urban problems at the local government level for the present and future of the Marmara Region, the Doctoral Dissertation Support Program initiated by the Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU) will support 25 doctoral dissertation. The doctoral dissertation titled "Development of Real Estate Management Applications with Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Smart City Geographic Data Infrastructure" conducted by Research Assistant Süleyman Şişman, a doctoral student in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Arif Çağdaş Aydınoğlu, has earned the right to receive support.

With rapid population growth and urbanization, determining sustainable real estate management strategies for smart cities has become an important area of study. In this doctoral study, a wide range of different real estate management practices, from taxation to insurance services, from investment planning to urban transformation applications, from the selection of the most suitable facility locations to real estate development, will be aimed to establish quality and up-to-date data infrastructures for 2D/3D geographic data. The use of Artificial Intelligence and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) techniques in the data infrastructure will generate value data substructures related to real estate and identify model approaches that will enhance the accuracy of mass real estate valuation. The methodology to be presented in the dissertation will address the requirements for the objective determination of real estate value, identification of real estate value regions, monitoring of real estate's actual value changes, and the creation of new generation value maps with web dashboards, thus providing a direct roadmap for municipalities in their planning and investment activities.

The MMU is Turkey's first municipal union. It works to enhance environmental awareness and promote sustainable urbanism and collaboratively finds solutions to common problems of municipalities. With the Doctoral Dissertation Support Program, the aim is to disseminate solution proposals produced through scientific research on urban problems for the present and future of the Marmara Region at the local government level. Financial support is provided for dissertations selected through the evaluation of the MMU Council.

We congratulate our academics for their projects conducted in the Geographic Information Technologies Laboratory and wish them continued success.
