GTU Students Come First in "Young Scholars" Competition

The Esri Türkiye "Genç Bilginler" (Young Scholars) Competition 2024 has come to an end. Nilay Tellioğlu, a Geomatics Engineering student at GTU, and Asuman Sare Ergut, a Computer Engineering student at GTU, have become the winners of the competition by receiving the highest score.
The final of the Young Scholars Competition, which was held with 11 projects selected from students applying from all over Türkiye, took place in Ankara on February 17, 2024. Nilay Tellioğlu, a student at the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU) who presented the study "Development of Real Estate Valuation Model with Spatial Intelligence (GeoAI) Algorithms in Smart Cities" under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Arif Çağdaş Aydınoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Geomatics Engineering, received the highest score in the jury evaluation and became the winner of the competition. Nilay Tellioğlu earned the first prize and the opportunity to travel to San Diego, USA, with the Esri Türkiye team.
In the study conducted by Geomatics Engineering master's scholarship student Nilay Tellioğlu and Computer Engineering undergraduate scholarship student Asuman Sare Ergut at the Geographic Information Technologies Laboratory under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Arif Çağdaş Aydınoğlu within the scope of TÜBİTAK project number 122R021, parameters that can be used in value estimation were enriched with Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms, and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based approach was developed to create real estate value maps using machine learning algorithms.
Geomatics Engineering students who have been participating in the Young Scholars Competition organized by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc.), the world leader in the GIS sector, since 2022, have left their mark on the internationally recognized competition by achieving rankings in all competitions.
