GTU Talks About Palestine

December 28, 2023-GTU Office of Press and Public Relations

At a conference held at Gebze Technical University (GTU), Dr. Mehmet Ali Uğur shares his views on the tragedy caused by Israel in Palestine.

The conference, organized by GTU Rectorate, featured Dr. Uğur's presentation titled "The Israel Problem in Palestine: Political and Legal Evaluations." The event, held at GTU Congress and Cultural Center, was attended by GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hasari Çelebi, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Ramazan Altundaş, academics, administrative staff, and students.

Dr. Uğur, evaluating the horror caused by Israel in Gaza within the framework of international relations and international law disciplines, emphasized the importance of accurately naming the issue. He underscored that it would be more appropriate to refer to it as an "Israel problem" rather than a "Palestine problem." Dr. Uğur analyzed the issue at the levels of individuals, states, and the international system, providing a brief legal and political chronology to understand how Israel's relentless occupation and massacres are often ignored by Western countries. He criticized the current international practices and organizations, particularly emphasizing that the main aggression comes "not from Hamas, but from the occupying Israel." In response to questions from students, Dr. Uğur highlighted that this ongoing tragedy is, in fact, a broader reflection of global processes. He also noted that Türkiye has been the most vocal country so far against Israel's unjust attacks.
