GTU Successfully Introduces Its Projects at International Honey Council and Fair

Türkiye has hosted a significant event for apiculture and bee products, the "International Honey Council and Fair," for the first time. GTU showcased its successful projects at this special event.

The "1st International Honey Council and Fair" took place in Bingöl from November 17 to 19, 2023, under the auspices of Acting President Cevdet Yılmaz and the hosting of Prof. Dr. İbrahim Çapak, the Rector of Bingöl University. The event garnered great interest, with the participation of YÖK President Erol Özvar, Bingöl Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta, TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gümen, Bingöl Mayor Erdal Arıkan, GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, along with numerous university rectors, chamber of commerce presidents, and other stakeholders.

GTU presented the outcomes of two projects conducted in collaboration with Atatürk University under the coordination of Bingöl University, within the framework of the "Beekeeping and Bee Products Joint Application and Research Center." Representing GTU, Prof. Dr. Yelda Özden Çiftçi, Director of the Smart Agriculture Research and Application Center (ATAM) and Head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) Department, along with ATAM Deputy Directors Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Gül Şeker (MBG Faculty Member, GTU) and Nurgül Kıtır Şen (Faculty Member at the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences), as well as GTU MBG Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Akkaya, participated in the event. The professors shared the outputs of their projects, realized using GTU-MAR (Central Research Laboratory) infrastructure and facilities, with stakeholders and the local community during the fair held concurrently with the "Honey Council."

During the event, YÖK President Erol Özvar provided information about the "Beekeeping and Bee Products Joint Application and Research Center," a first-of-its-kind initiative in Türkiye established through the collaboration of three universities. Later, at the fair inaugurated with the participation of Cevdet Yılmaz, Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, Özvar toured the joint stand of GTU and Bingöl University, receiving information about the studies from GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar and faculty members. GTU faculty members also connected live to TRT GAP radio to provide information about their projects.
