September 18, 2023

The second GTU homecoming of the year is held on its sustainable green campus.

The second GTU alumni homecoming, which serves as a bridge to convey institutional culture, increase interactions between alumni and students, alumni and academics, and strengthen the alumni's ties with GTU, was recently held. GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar; Prof. Dr. Lutfihak Alpkan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Türkiye; Osman Boyraz, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye; GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Işıl Kurnaz, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş, Prof. Dr. Hasari Çelebi; GTU alumni and their families; GTU students; and GTU academic and administrative staff attended the alumni homecoming event.

The homecoming was designed with two separate events, one being at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center and the other at the campus area. The event began with a speech by Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center. Emphasizing the importance of universities getting back together their alumni, GTU Rector mentioned that this culture would become more prominent at GTU in the forthcoming period with many more meetings to be held. He explained the efforts of the Alumni Coordination Office established within the university to advance interaction with the alumni.

Rector Mantar highlighted that despite being a young university, GTU is strong in education and research, globally recognized, and in line with international norms. He said, "Our university is a leader in the most important projects in Turkey. We are not behind any university in the world. We value the unity of the academic staff, students, and alumni, which make up the three pillars of universities. Our unity is important for the motivation of our students, addressing the shortcomings of the university, expanding collaborations, and ensuring continuity. We will continue our efforts to strengthen our unity. Many of our alumni provide us with continuous support, both financially and morally, and we believe this support will increase further."

After the speech, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş delivered a presentation evaluating the current status of the university. The ceremony at the Congress and Cultural Center ended with the presentation of plaques to GTU alumni who have completed 25 years in graduation.

For the second part of the event, the alumni gathered at the dining areas of the sustainable green campus to enjoy the beauty of the campus. They ended the day with enjoyable conversations with their families, friends, and professors.
