CDRI Support for Kocaeli: GTU To Investigate Earthquake Resilience of Healthcare Facilities

Gebze Technical University (GTU) will undertake a project to investigate the earthquake resilience of healthcare facilities in the Kocaeli region, supported by the CDRI-Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

The team from Gebze Technical University (GTU) consists of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Can Zülfikar, a faculty member at the Department of Civil Engineering; Research Assistant Ali İkbal Tutar; and Wilfrid G. Djima, a student in Earthquake and Structural Engineering Doctoral Program. The team will receive support for the project titled "Earthquake Resilience of Healthcare Facilities in the Kocaeli Region" as part of the program conducted by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). CDRI is an organization that aims to promote the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks, involving a wide partnership from national governments to the private sector.

Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Can Zülfikar from GTU's Department of Civil Engineering, the project will focus on studying the seismic risks of healthcare facilities in the Kocaeli region, where earthquake resilience is of great importance. The project, the first one from Türkiye to receive support in this year's program, will make a significant contribution to Türkiye's efforts to establish earthquake-resilient infrastructure. Developing resilient infrastructure to overcome challenges in the healthcare, education, and transportation sectors after earthquakes and ensuring the continuity of existing facilities is one of Türkiye's top priorities, and activities in line with this objective will continue.

We congratulate our academics and doctoral student, and wish them success in the project.
