TUSAŞ (Turkish Aerospace) establishes the Advanced Research Laboratory for Aviation at Gebze Technical University (GTU) with the aim of producing qualified researchers for the defense industry and aviation sectors.

As part of the university-industry collaboration activities, an agreement was signed between TUSAŞ (Turkish Aerospace) and Gebze Technical University (GTU) to establish the GTU-TUSAŞ Advanced Research Laboratory for Aviation. The laboratory opening took place in the GTU Senate Meeting Hall, and the signing ceremony was attended by GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, TUSAŞ Engineering Executive Vice President Dr. Özkan Altay, GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Işıl Kurnaz, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş, and Prof. Dr. Hasari Çelebi, along with GTU faculty deans and members, and TUSAŞ officials. Following the signing of the protocol, the official opening of the Advanced Research Laboratory for Aviation was held at GTU's Technology Transfer Office.

The laboratory is designed to produce qualified researchers for the defense industry and aviation sectors, with plans to involve 20 researchers. The focus is on developing advanced R&D solutions for unique platforms created by TUSAŞ engineers. These solutions will be implemented through collaboration with academics and students.

Under the agreement, research including the development and testing of new lightweight and durable materials, exploration of hybrid or electric aircraft concepts, investigation of the mechanical impact of nanoparticles on composite materials, development of ballistic-based composite panels (multi-layer structures) containing ceramics, and the creation of more efficient and effective concepts for aerial vehicles using novel design approaches that will form the basis for crucial projects will be conducted.

The signed agreement encompasses the producing of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers studying in strategic areas for the company, development of undergraduate education graduation projects, and provision of project scholarships for students. Additionally, for advanced R&D studies in this laboratory, 512 cores will be allocated from the total 70,000-core computer system owned by TUSAŞ.
