High school students had the opportunity to discuss everything about artificial intelligence with GTU Academicians at the "Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and Education" panel.

Gebze Technical University (GTU) Social Contribution Coordination and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Çayırova District Public Library organized a panel titled "Artificial Intelligence, Technology, and Education," where GTU Academicians met with Çayırova 15 July Martyrs High School students. Çayırova District Governor Ahmet Önal, Çayırova District Public Library Director Özgür Akgün, GTU Social Contribution Coordinator and Rector's Advisor Prof. Dr. Meral Elçi, academics, and students attended the panel held at the Çayırova District Public Library.

The general coordination was undertaken by Dr. Faculty Member Fatma Karaoğlu Ceyhan from the GTU Faculty of Basic Sciences Department of Mathematics, and the moderation was carried out by Dr. Yavuz Selim Balcıoğlu, a Lecturer in the Department of Management Information Systems at the GTU Faculty of Business Administration. During the panel, Dr. Faculty Member Tülay Ayyıldız from the GTU Faculty of Engineering Computer Engineering Department discussed the mathematical foundations of computers and artificial intelligence, emphasizing that models referred to as artificial intelligence are actually mathematical equations. She explained how topics such as logic, probability, and sets taught in high school play a role in machine learning. Lecturer Doğa Nalcı from the GTU School of Cybersecurity talked about the journey of librarianship from past to present and the role of technology in this field, stating that teachers and students can effectively utilize these tools in their educational processes without fear, including ChatGPT derivative software. He also touched upon artificial intelligence models developed at Gebze Technical University. Dr. Seyit Rıza Tiğrek approached artificial intelligence epistemologically and emphasized that intelligence is not specific to machines, focusing on the definition where algorithms generated by human intelligence are executed on machines. He discussed the evolution that education and teaching must undergo and emphasized that we should be producers, not just users, of artificial intelligence.

Following the panel, Çayırova District Governor Ahmet ÖNAL, upon seeing the intense questions from the students, requested the extension of the event to continue addressing the students' questions. After the panel, students had the opportunity to directly ask their questions to the academics, both in vocational and academic fields, and receive answers.

At the end of the program, GTU Social Contribution Coordinator and Rector's Advisor Prof. Dr. Meral Elçi thanked Çayırova District Public Library Director Özgür Akgün for their collaboration and hospitality.
