Ali Levent Yağcı was born in Nazilli, Turkey. He received his both Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Later, he received a Ph.D. degree in Earth Systems and Geoinformation Sciences from George Mason University in 2015. He was employed as a research assistant at the Center for Spatial Information Science and Systems (CSISS) at George Mason University between 2010 and 2012. Later, he worked as a researcher in the United States Geological Survey Eastern Geographic Science Center (USGS-EGSC) between 2012 and 2014. Upon his graduation in 2015, he joined the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA-GSFC) as a post-doctoral researcher. He is currently working as an assistant professor in the Geomatics Engineering Department at Gebze Technical University, Kocaeli, Turkey. His research interests include drought monitoring and forecasting, evapotranspiration modeling, and remote sensing data (e.g. big data) processing in Python.
