Dr. Çiçek İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Elektronik ve Haberleşme Mühendisliği Bölümü'nden 2002 yılında Siemens Mühendislikte Mükemmellik ödülünü alarak yüksek onur derecesiyle mezun oldu. Yüksek lisansını 2004 yılında Sabancı Üniversitesi Elektronik Mühendisliği Bölümü'nde tamamladı. Akademik kariyerine Boğaziçi Üniversitesi'nde devam edip 2014 yılında Elektrik - Elektronik Mühendisliği Bölümü'nden doktora derecesini aldı. 2009-2015 yılları arasında TÜBİTAK Ulusal Elektronik ve Kriptoloji Araştırmaları Enstitüsünde uzman donanım tasarımcısı ve iletişim güvenliği analisti olarak çalışan Dr. Çiçek, 2015-2017 yılları arasında University of California, Santa Barbara kampüsünde doktora sonrası araştırmacı olarak bulundu. 2017-2020 yılları arasında İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi Tümleşik Devreler Laboratuvarının direktörlüğü görevini yürüttü. 2020 yılında İstinye Üniversitesi’ne katılan Dr. Çiçek, 2022 yılına kadar araştırmalarına bu üniversitede kurduğu Dijital Sistemler Laboratuvarı çatısı altında devam etti. 2022 yılında Gebze Teknik Üniversitesi Elektronik Mühendisliği Bölümü'ne katılarak yürütücüsü olduğu Dijital Elektronik Tekniği Araştırma Laboratuvarı (DELTALAB)'nı kurdu.

İlgi alanları, analog ve sayısal tümleşik devre tasarımı, programlanabilir lojik aygıtlar ve uygulamaları, kriptografik gerçek rastsal sayı üreteçleri, güvenli gömülü sistem tasarımı olarak özetlenebilir. Dr. Çiçek, Journal of Cryptographic Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I/II, Integration-The VLSI Journal, IET Electronic Letters, International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science gibi ulusal ve uluslararası bilimsel dergilerde uzmanı olduğu konularda hakemlik ve yazarlık yapmaktadır.
