Background:

Israfil Kucuk was born in Turkey's beautiful Israfil city in 1981. He attended Yildiz Technical University, Turkey (TR) for his BEng education and graduated (2004) with honors in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME). Then, he received MEng (2010) degree in MME from Marmara University, TR. After doctoral studies (2016) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on Bioprocessing of polymeric nanostructures (PNs) for drug delivery at University College London (UCL), UK, he returned to Turkey and assumed as an assistant professor at Bursa Technical University in December 2016. In BTU, he established his own research group "Nano-delight" in August 2017 with 5 Ph.D. and 6 MEng students. Currently, Israfil Kucuk is serving as an assistant professor in GTUNANO since July 2019. Here professor (assistant) Kucuk and his Nano-delight Research Group embarked upon research addressing not only advanced preparation techniques for bactericidal activity enhancement of nano-delights (including metals, coatings, and PNs) and also classical metallurgy on casting and corrosion properties of metallic materials and non-destructive testing of composites in the automotive industry. He has actively pursued advanced materials processing, forming and manufacturing research for over 15 years publishing over 32 journal papers with an h-index of 14, ~729 citations (Source: Google Scholar, March 2025). Moreover, he delivered over 34 oral/poster presentations at many different first-class international conferences worldwide (major recent meetings include: Zing Conferences and TMS). He has supervised over 12 MEng students and has been awarded grants to the value of over £220K, with Islamic Development Bank Nanotechnology Research and TUBITAK grants, which have given him the chance to explore microfluidic engineered platforms for drug delivery and tissue engineering. His 2 research works have won 2 poster presentation prizes from two reputable conferences in 2014 and 2019.
