Overview
Our department started to serve as the Department of Biology under Gebze Institute of Technology, Faculty of Science in 1994 in order to support the qualified faculty/staff needs of our universities. Between 1994-2002, it provided Master's and PhD education at Çayırova Campus. Afterwards, it continued its research, development and educational activities at GYTE Muallimköy campus by providing Master's and Doctorate education on 2002 and 2009.
Since December 2009, the Department of Biology moved to its permanent building in Çayırova Campus and was renamed as the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) in the same year in accordance with the infrastructure, staff, research topics, course contents and the development of the department. In 2010, undergraduate education was started with at least 30% English then the language of instruction has been 100% English since 2016.
MBG department continues its scientific studies with a total of 19 research groups in the direction of current approaches and perspectives indicated below;

Research is funded by international institutions (European Union, COST projects, etc.), TÜBİTAK, TÜSEB, TAGEM, MARKA, Ministry and university scientific research projects.
