Faculty of Science

  

  

The Faculty of Science, founded in 1992 as one of the five faculties at GTU (named GIT back then), comprises of the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Molecular Biology and Genetics. At these departments, education and teaching and research activities on fundamental sciences are conducted. The aim of the faculty is to conduct research that seeks to raise researchers that our country needs and become integrated with the world.

In addition to the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Molecular Biology and Genetics offering master's and doctoral programs since 1994 at the Faculty of Science, the Department of Physics and the Department of Mathematics have been offering undergraduate education since 2001 and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics has been offering undergraduate education since 2010.

Our faculty has 6 international contract faculty members including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, and 1 lecturer. In addition to the faculty members listed in the table above, there is a total of 10 research assistants who are normally members of the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences but who have been assigned to work with the departments under the Faculty of Science. 4 of those research assistants work with the Department of Physics; 3 work with the Department of Mathematics, 2 work with the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and 1 works with the Department of Chemistry. There is also 1 specialist from the Rectorate that currently works with the Department of Chemistry.

There are 13 permanent administrative staff members at the Faculty of Science. With additionally assigned members, there is a total of 15 staff members including 1 faculty secretary, 1 supervisor, 1 engineer, 1 physicist, 5 computer operators, 2 office clerks, 2 technicians, and 1 laboratorian.

At the Faculty of Science, there are 2 lecture halls, 37 classrooms, 2 computer laboratories, and 39 research laboratories. All research laboratories have the latest equipment for conducting advanced level research. The findings obtained as a result of the research conducted at these laboratories get published in SCI indexed journals. The number of such publications for 2015 is 148.

Over the past 23 years, the Faculty of Science has always sought to make great contributions to the development of science and technology in Turkey and to fundamental and applied research on a contemporary level. The Faculty's efforts have been proven with the publications in reputable international journals, making the Faculty the most productive one of the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences. These efforts also increased the number of publications per faculty member at GTU and ensured GTU to be listed in the top positions for this ranking, leaving behind many other universities.
