Guest Students See Chemical Practices On Site at GTU

Visiting GTU's Department of Chemistry, İstanbul Beşiktaş Kabataş Boys' High School students find the opportunity to take a closer look at the practice of the science

A group of high school students consisting of the 9th, 10th and 11th grade students of İstanbul Beşiktaş Kabataş Boys' High School recently paid a visit in company with their chemistry teacher İnci Özyurt to the Department of Chemistry at GTU. As part of the visit, the students were given a seminar on GTU and its Department of Chemistry by Research Assistant Dr. Aişe Ünlü from the Department of Chemistry, and the science of chemistry, subdisciplines of chemistry and its areas of study were introduced to the students. In the second phase, the students visited the laboratories of the Department of Chemistry in company with Research Assistant Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şule Şahin Ün, and received detailed information on the studies conducted at the Mass Spectroscopy, NMR, Spectroscopy, and Chromatography Laboratories respectively, from Lecturer Dr. Derya Davarcı, Lecturer Ayşen Orhan Erkovan and Lecturer Esra Nur Kaya. The students also visited the Biochemistry Laboratories and actively participated in the synthesis of golden nanoparticles using plant extracts. Following their visits to the laboratories, they exchanged opinions for their future project development studies.
