GTU Faculty Member Selected Kocaeli's Top Scholar

Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at GTU is selected the scholar of the year in the competition organized by the newspaper "Kocaeli Gazetesi"

The winners of the competition "Doruktakiler" (the Greatest), which is being organized since 1991 by Kocaeli Gazetesi, which has left behind 44 years in publication, have been announced following the grand jury meeting on December 27, 2018 at Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce. As a result, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, GTU, has been deemed worthy of the Top Scholar of the Year Award. Prof. Durmuş was nominated for the award with his project for a toothpaste that is produced with next-generation smart molecules and kills all the germs in the mouth by becoming activated under LED light. The project, titled “Development of a Phototherapeutic Anti-Microbial Toothpaste", is also being supported by KOSGEB (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization of Turkey) under the "R&D and Innovation Support Program". With the completion of the project, a unique, next generation toothpaste will have been produced in Turkey.
