Assoc. Prof. Turgay Çakmak Delivers a Talk As Part of Biotechnology Seminars
December 25, 2018
Associate Professor Turgay Çakmak (PhD) from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Medeniyet University, who participated as a guest speaker in the Biotechnology Seminars organized by GTU's Institute of Biotechnology, delivered a presentation titled "Elemental manipulation of growth environment for microalgal biodiesel raw materials prouction".
In his presentation, Professor Çakmak talked about microalgae and cyanobacteria; importance of algae for energy, water, food and environment; how nutrient manipulation (nutritional adequacy or supplement), which is one of microalgae's significant stress factors, can strongly trigger triacylglycerol (TAG) production; biochemical reaction models of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, which is a single cell green alga related with the deficiency or overabundance of some vital and trace elements; and lipid biosynthesis.
At the end of the seminar, Professor Çakmak answered participants' questions.
