GTU RECTOR PROFESSOR ASLAN AMONG THE SUMMIT'S HONORARY BOARD MEMBERS

Kartepe Summit 2018, hosted by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and for which GTU was a stakeholder, was carried out in Kartepe, Kocaeli, with Republic of Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu as the Chairman of the Honorary Board and GTU Rector Prof. Muhammed Hasan Aslan (PhD) as a Member of the Honorary Board.

A MULTI-VIEW PERSPECTIVE OF MIGRATION

The theme of this year's summit was "Migration, Refugees and Humanity", and the summit, which took place between October 26 and 28, has become the largest migration-themed international event of the year so far with 2 conferences, 2 workshops, 24 panels, and 11 academic sessions. The notion of "migration and refugees", which is also a matter that deeply affects people worldwide, was discussed from multi-angle points of view at the summit, and the conclusions reached will be announced as a declaration and shared officially with many national and international policy and decision making institutions and organizations including the United Nations, as was done last year.  

The summit started with the opening speech by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu, which was followed by the greeting speeches by Süleyman Soylu, Republic of Turkey's Minister of Internal Affairs; Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Republic of Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs; George Papandreou, Greece's Former Prime Minister; Dimitris Vitsas, Greece's Minister for Migration Policy; Irena Vojackova-Sollorano, EU Resident Coordinator for Turkey; and Christian Berger, Head of EU Delegation Turkey.

GTU ACADEMIC AMONG THE PANELISTS AT THE SUMMIT 

Assoc. Prof. Murat Anıl Mercan (PhD), Economics Faculty Member and Vice Dean for the Faculty of Business Administration, GTU, was one the speakers at the panel titled "Migration and Public Order". The panel session, at which the migration's impact on public order and its consequences were evaluated, was moderated by Galatasaray University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Didem Danış (PhD). The final declaration of the summit will be released on November 29, 2018.
