Our Young Entrepreneurs Receive Grants

Doctoral Biotechnology Student Oya Arı Uyar, for whom GTU Biotechnology Institute's Director Prof. Işıl Kurnaz (PhD) is the academic co-advisor, and GTU Biotechnology Institute Master's Student Gül Banu Aydın, have recently earned the right to receive grants under TÜBİTAK's 1512 BİGG (Individual Young Entrepreneurship) Techno-Entrepreneurship Capital Support Program, responding to the call for the first term of 2018.

Supported under TÜBİTAK's 1512 BİGG Techno-Entrepreneurship Capital Support Program and studying as a master's student at GTU's Institute of Biotechnology, Gül Banu Aydın will conduct studies for the production of national next generation 3D bio-printers and will try to eliminate the importation of such products with her company "GGBA TECH Yazılım Mühendislik Danışmanlık Sanayi Ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi". The company aims to become one of the pioneering companies in Turkey and one of the leading companies in the region for this field.

Yeditepe University Doctoral Biotechnology Student Oya Arı Uyar, for whom GTU Biotechnology Institute's Director Prof. Işıl Kurnaz (PhD) is the academic co-advisor, will focus on the production of recombinant raw materials with her company "BIOM Technology", supported under the same program. Within the scope of the projects, BIOM Technology will carry out projects at GTU to produce recombinant raw materials to be used in research laboratories, along with drug and food sectors. Since the sub-industry for raw materials will have been established in Turkey, industrial production costs for biotechnological drugs and such will be reduced and positive contribution to the national production will have been made. These recombinant proteins, expected to achieve presence in international markets as value-added export products, will also enable researchers that conduct research in the field of molecular cell biology in Turkey to procure consumable materials at more affordable prices.
