GTU Sends Off Graduates
The GTU Commencement Ceremony for 2017-2018 Academic Year is held at GTU campus. Gebze Deputy Mayor Nilay Ayran receives her diploma and becomes a GTU graduate. Another GTU graduate receives marriage proposal during the ceremony.
GTU recently sent off its bachelor's, master's and PhD degree graduates at the "2017-2018 Academic Year Commencement Ceremony", which was held with enthusiasm at the festival area on campus. The ceremony was attended by Hüseyin Aksoy, Governor of Kocaeli; Zekeriya Özak, Deputy Mayor, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality; Prof. Muhammed Hasan Aslan (PhD), Rector, Gebze Technical University; Mustafa Güler, Gebze District Governor; Hasan Gözen, Çayırova District Governor; Nilay Ayran; Deputy Mayor, Gebze Municipality; Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, President of Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce; industrialists-business people; students; and parents. The greeting speech at the ceremony was made by the Albanian student Elshanı Kamberi, who graduated from GTU's Department of Mathematics as the top student of the university.
GTU STUDENTS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Delivering a speech at the ceremony and remarking that GTU is among the top universities of Turkey thanks to its faculty members, students, and partners forming a big family, GTU Rector Prof. Muhammed Hasan Aslan (PhD) addressed the graduating students with the following remarks: "I believe you will all become the most dynamic representatives of GTU in national and international platforms, thanks to the knowledge and experience you have gained during your years in our university. As soon as you start a job, you will see that you are different from others and that you make a difference in everything you do. Each of you now owns an intellectual capital with the courses you have taken and both the academic and social events you have participated. It is now up to you to use this capital with honesty, diligence, but most importantly, with courage to open doors to new ideas. My advice to you is to never lose your loyalty to your country and nation in the rest of your life, including your business life and academic studies.
Our country needs your experience, your dynamism and idealistic point of view. Your ideas and opinions really matter to us and will guide our country's visions for 2023 and 2071, please always keep that in mind. I believe you will humbly share your energy with us both as individuals and members of the society."
GTU GRADUATES WILL PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE PROGRESS OF THE COUNTRY
In the speech he made at the ceremony, Kocaeli Governor Hüseyin Aksoy highlighted the privilege of graduating from GTU, which is one of the 10 research universities of Turkey and stated that he has no doubt GTU graduates will make serious contributions to the development and improvement of Turkey.
MBG GRADUATE RECEIVES MARRIAGE PROPOSAL
Following the ceremonial speeches, GTU students graduating from undergraduate and graduate programs were awarded their diplomas by their teaching faculty members. Gebze Municipality's Deputy Mayor Nilay Ayran, who completed her master's studies in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at GTU's Institute of Social Sciences, drew attention among the other diploma-receiving students. The plaquets and rewards of the top 3 graduating students, Elshanı Kamberi from the Department of Mathematics, Beste Uygur from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG), and Ertuğrul Yılmaz from the Department of Management, were presented by the senior invitees of the ceremony. Taking the stage at the ceremony, Fatih Zeybek, a GTU graduate from the previous academic year, proposed to his girlfriend Hikmet Veli, who graduated from the Department of MBG this year, and surprised the crowd. Taking their graduation oath led by Prof. Işıl Kurnaz (PhD) from the Department of MBG, the graduating students counted from 10 to 0 and then all together threw their caps in the air.
