As of April 27, 2018, Faculty of Science Teaching and Researching Faculty Member Prof. Muhammed Hasan Aslan (PhD) has been appointed as the Acting Rector of Gebze Technical University (GTU) by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The former GTU Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün (PhD) has recently had to resign as he has been appointed as the new President & CEO of ASELSAN A.Ş.

 

Aslan, who has recently been holding the position of GTU's Vice Rector before he was appointed as the Acting Rector today, was born on August 20, 1967 in Istanbul. Having received his bachelor's and master of science degrees from the Department of Physics, Istanbul University, Aslan earned his PhD from the Colorado School of Mines in the US. In 1999, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, GIT, and in 2006, he was appointed as an Associate Professor for the same department. Aslan earned the title of Professor at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, GTU, in 2015. Up to now, he has held several administrative positions including the Assistant Head of Department, Department of Physics, GTU; Director, Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, GTU; and most recently the Vice Rector, GTU. Aslan is married with two children.
