Research Incentive Award Goes To GTU

Assoc. Prof. Tunahan Çakır, Head of Department, Department of Bioengineering at GTU becomes entitled to receive the "Research Incentive Award" granted by METU's Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation

GTU, recently declared as one of the 10 research universities of Turkey, has just received another award. Assoc. Prof. Tunahan Çakır, Head of Department, Department of Bioengineering at GTU has been listed among the scholars this year who have been deemed worthy of receiving the "Research Incentive Award" that is granted by METU's Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation every year. The award is given to young researchers under 40 who help improve their scientific field with their studies, and Çakır was considered worthy thanks to the studies he has conducted and plans to conduct in the field of systems biology. 

Assoc. Prof. Tunahan Çakır will receive his award at the ceremony that will be held on December 19, 2017 in the Hall A of METU's Culture and Convention Center. Çakır's point of focus in his studies is to map the metric data of the thousands of molecules present in the cell to molecular interaction networks and understand the molecular mechanisms of diseases, and thus identify the molecules that are biomarkers, drug targets and drug candidates for diseases using bioinformatic methods. In line with his focus, Çakır's goal is to conduct research on Parkinson's disease, infectional diseases caused by K. pneumoniae and S. enterica pathogens, and non-small cell lung cancer. We congratulate our academic on his achievement and wish him continued success.
