Electroceramics Discussed

Electroceramics TR-2017 Workshop was recently held in order to bring together the scholars conducting studies in the field of electroceramics, to have these studies presented, and to exchange opinions through discussion.

Hosted by GTU and supported by Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and Turkish Ceramic Society (TSD), the workshop took place between 2-3 November 2017 at GTU's Electronics Engineering Building, Lecture Hall 1. GTU Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün, TSD Chairman Prof. Alpagut Kara, academics, students, and sector representatives attended the workshop. During the sessions, the experts in the field provided information about the latest research on electroceramics, which stand out with their high value-added, electrical, magnetic and optical properties and applications in our country, which is in an internationally leading position in terms of ceramics production.

During the opening speech she made, Assoc. Prof. Ebru Menşur Alkoy, GTU Materials Science and Engineering Department Member and the Head of the Workshop Organizing Committee, remarked: "This year, the workshop is being held for the first time and hosted by GTU, and more than 150 participants (with 32 oral presentations and 20 poster presentations) actively contributed to the project. We have received considerable feedback from the participants saying that this workshop is very useful, that it addresses a serious need, that it is well-organized, and that it should be held in the following years. We are planning to hold the workshop every two years.  The industry session, which was participated by the companies from the defense sector, drew much attention from the students and academics. The Organizing Committee this year consisted of myself, GTU Materials Science and Engineering Department Members Prof. Sedat Alkoy and Prof. Hüseyin Yılmaz. The organization was supported by TÜBA, GTU Technology Transfer Center Inc., and TSD. With our dear Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün in the first place, we thank our Vice Rectors; the Secretary General; TTC Inc. Director and employees; Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports; and the Office of Press and Public Relations."

After the opening speech, GTU Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün took the floor and expressed his satisfaction with the high number of universities and reputable institutions gathering under GTU's roof within this workshop. Görgün wished this workshop would contribute to the putting of knowledge into use in the economy. During the workshop, studies on the synthesis of ceramic-based materials and their structure-property relations and applications that are addressed under the topics such as dielectrics and electrical insulation, superconductors, piezoelectrics, ferroelectrics, ionic conductors, solid oxide fuel cells, ferrites and magnetism, ceramic sensors, and photocatalysis were presented orally and in poster format for two days.
