Weekly Seminars on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Start at GTU

The seminars that are being held on “Bioinformatics and Systems Biology” at GTU for a while now and that will continue to be hold for the rest of the 2017-2018 Fall Semester have already attracted attention.

 

In the seminars held within the scope of the master’s program conducted under the same name by the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences at GTU, speakers who are all experts on their topics appear as guests. The seminar series hosts faculty members working in the field of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, as well as experts from research institutes, laboratories and hospitals, and is open to participants from inside and outside GTU. With the seminars held at the conference hall of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at GTU every Tuesday between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, the speakers share the most recent research findings and results with the participants.

 

While the first seminar was given on “Next Generation Sequencing Technologies” by Specialist Aydan Saraç from the Institute of Gene Engineering and Biotechnology, TÜBİTAK MAM, the second seminar was given on Systems-Based Approach in Biology and Medicine by Prof. Nezih Hekim from the Faculty of Medicine, Biruni University. Also up to now under the series, Murat İşbilen from PHI Tech Bioinformatics Company shared his bioinformatics study on biomarker identification for some types of cancer. The next week’s (October 17, 2017) speaker will be Bioinformatician Dr. Esra Yücel from Koç University.
