GTU Ranks Fourth In UAV Competition

GTU’s Kelebek (Butterflies) Team won the fourth place among 97 national and international teams at TÜBİTAK 2017 International Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Turkey Competition.

TÜBİTAK’s (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) 2017 International UAV Turkey Competition, the first of which in Turkey was held at GTU, was organized at TAI’s (Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc.) Kahramankazan Campus in Ankara this year for the second time. At the competition, which aims the development of UAVs (aka drones) for civil use to help people in the event of emergencies such as fire or accidents, 97 national and international teams that made it to the finals competed with each other. The teams took up the UAV challenges defined by TÜBİTAK and struggled to come out on top completing the tracks. While the Kelebek Team with Professor Yusuf Sinan Akgül as their academic adviser ranked the fourth in the Fixed Wing category of the competition, the Tuğrul Team with Research Assistant Fahreddin Fatih Öngül as their academic adviser ranked the fifteenth in the Rotary Wing category. GTU was also awarded the “Best Sportsmanlike Conduct Award" at the competition, which was held between 13 - 16 July 2017.
