The press statement is as follows:

“July 15, 2016 is the day when the Gülenist Terrorist Organization FETO, targeting the unity, integrity and stability of Turkey, attempted a coup over our country for their malicious purposes; when our internal and external enemies unmasked themselves; and when the evil games they played were revealed. It is the day that made us remember the significance of our unity and solidarity as a nation one more time.

All vicious efforts of these traitors, threatening the unity and solidarity of our country and only serving their own agenda, were eliminated that night and will be continued to do so. The essence of the matter was a villainous and treacherous coup attempted by the certain parallel structure against the existence, unity and solidarity of the Republic of Turkey. Feasting on unrest, torture, cruelty and blood, this mindset has been trying to drive Turkey into chaos and destroy democracy, the quest for welfare, and social peace. Crazed enough to direct guns at their own people, so disoriented as to forget which country and what faith they serve, now is the day of reckoning for these traitors. No one must doubt that the remnants of this malicious attack will be cleared away by defending and protecting the core values of the Republic. The Great Turkish Nation, drawing on its own history, succeeded in uniting together and standing up against this attempted coup backed by the ruthless terrorist organization.

In the presence of our nation’s indivisible unity and solidarity, we hereby strongly condemn the coup attempted by FETO, and take this fierce attack on the night of July 15 as a crime against humanity. As a nation, it is our duty to act in integrity, unity, and solidarity against those who target our country. And as universities, it is our biggest responsibility to raise generations who protect the foundations of the Republic; to work and produce harder; and to compete with the world for the integrity and future of our country.

The State of the Republic of Turkey has always fought honorably against such attempts and will always continue to do so. No terrorist organization will ever be able to achieve their evil purposes over this country and destroy the feelings of brotherhood among the people of this country with the malicious attacks they plan in order to pit brother against brother. We express our gratitude towards all our citizens who took to the streets and built a wall of flesh against the enemy’s tanks and weapons sacrificing themselves and becoming martyrs and veterans for the survivability of our country on the night of July 15. May God bless the souls of our martyrs and rest them in peace!”
