GTU Says Goodbye To Its Graduates

GTU held its 2016-2017 Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, July 7, 2017. The ceremony was held at GTU’s festival area with both undergraduate and graduate degree students receiving their graduation certificates.

Hüseyin Aksoy, Governor of Kocaeli; Hasan Gözen, Gebze District Governor; Şükrü Karabacak, Mayor of Darıca; Mustafa Malkoç, Deputy Mayor of Çayırova; Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, Head of Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chairman of Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation; Nail Çiler, Chairman of the Executive Board of Gebze Chamber of Commerce; chairmen of the executive boards at Gebze Organized Industrial Zone, business people, faculty members, students and their families were all present at the ceremony. Afrim Bojnik, the Kosovan student graduating in the top rank in three and a half years, and Ayşe Yazıcı, who also graduated in the top rank, made their commencement speeches. Bojnik emphasized that it was a great opportunity to study at GTU. The two top-ranking students were both offered jobs by the software company Softtech and GTU Technology Transfer Center right after they received their graduation certificates.

364 STUDENTS GRADUATE

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Haluk Görgün, GTU Rector, stated that it was a proud day for GTU thanks to its students, 163 of whom graduating from undergraduate and 201 of whom graduating from graduate programs. Görgün also highlighted GTU’s recent achievements, including its URAP ranking for 2017 and the A+ grade it received from Turkish university students as a result a survey recently completed.

Hüseyin Aksoy, the new, recently appointed governor of Kocaeli, was one of the key speakers at the commencement ceremony. He asserted that Professor Haluk Görgün played a great role in GTU’s success and thanked all the faculty members at the same time. He also thanked the GTU students, and their families, who raised them as successful individuals. 

“NEVER LOSE YOUR ENTHUSIASM”

Aksoy continued his speech advising the students to never lose their enthusiasm, stating “No matter what you do, you must have enthusiasm in order to succeed.” The ceremony went on with the top-ranking students receiving awards, and with Professor Haluk Görgün also receiving an award from GTU stakeholders. The students then took the graduation oath and threw their caps in the air, dancing and having fun on the stage with their families afterwards.
