“We hope to leave a trace”

Making a speech at the event, GTU Rector Professor Haluk Görgün stated that the greatest wealth for Gebze Technical University, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is its students. “In order to adapt to international competition, universities need to embrace the recent positive developments in the world and within societies. The understanding as to the concept of university is going through a change, and universities, which only used to be expected to produce knowledge in the past, are now expected to use that knowledge effectively and create sources for new productions. The body of knowledge produced at universities lose their value in time unless they turn into technological productions. As a result, universities need to become incubation centers for science and technology-based research. Gebze Technical University, with an approximate of 6000 students and 800 academic and administrative staff, continues to work more than ever with the hope that it will become widely recognized and leave a trace in international arena. One fruit of that work today is this exhibition thanks to the great contributions by members of our faculties and determined efforts of our dear students. I would also like to thank the sector representatives present here today for not leaving us alone. I hope new bonds will form as a result of this exhibition and they will turn into academic collaborations, also job and internship opportunities.” Görgün said.
