There are about 70 bird species at GTU

Birdwatchers have observed nearly 70 birds at GTU campus. With the initiative of Rector of GTU Prof. Haluk Görgün, information about these species was placed to raise awareness to billboards at GTU campus.

Gebze Technical University (GTU) natural habitats still continues to be a natural haven for bird species that are threatened each passing day. In addition to its rich vegetation, GTU, a living area with more than 300 bird species, is adjacent to Istanbul on one of the most important bird migration points of Western Palearctic, increasing the number of bird species that can be seen throughout the year. In the last observations made by Dr. Hülya Akdemir Koç and Mehmet Eren Yalman about 70 bird species were observed on the campus, the number is increasing during the period of immigration and from season to season. In this scope, GTU Rector Prof. Haluk Görgün had bird diversity billboards placed at certain points of the campus to raise awareness about bird species and natural life. The booklet that records this natural entity will soon be shared with the public.
