GTU Touch to Electricity Networks

A study that will reduce costs in the renewed energy systems with developing technology was launched by Gebze Technical University. The project, supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), will be completed in two years and will produce an impact map that will guide the local electrical power plant investments.

Asst. Prof. Tuba GÖZEL is the project manager from the Department of Electronics Engineering at GTU. The project title is "Getting The Impact Maps of The Distribution Networks Fed by High-Level Local Power Plants" which was entitled to be supported under the TÜBİTAK 1001 Funding Program. In recent years, the population growth and the industrial development are increasing the need for energy. The limited availability of fossil-based energy resources and the pollution of the environment are leading to new and renewable energy sources. Especially thanks to government policies on carbon emission reduction; hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal, etc. are increasing rapidly in the power systems of renewable energy sources.

This Project Will Guide

Electricity Distribution Companies

The placement of the Local Power Plants (YES) in the distribution networks of many members of the European Union is supported by various incentives. However, rapidly increasing YESs have begun to cause various problems in distribution networks. Network operators who are obliged to maintain the reliability of the network and to maintain the quality of the energy have to solve and invest in the risks arising from the increasing YES. The most important problem of YES is to determine the measures to be used to identify and reduce the problems that will arise after placement. In this context an effect map to be developed will be a guide for the deployment strategies of the distribution companies and of the investments required by the changing traditional distribution network.
