GTU Opens Academic Year 2021-2022

GTU "2021-2022 Academic Year Opening Ceremony" was held with the participation of the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank. In addition to Minister Varank, Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz, Kocaeli MP İlyas Şeker, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tahir Büyükakın, GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammed Hasan Aslan, Gebze District Governor Mustafa Güler, Darıca District Governor Yüksel Kara, Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz, Darıca Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık, Körfez Mayor Şener Söğüt, GTU administration, academic and administrative staff, students, and members of the press attended the ceremony.

The ceremony at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center started with a moment of silence for the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and our martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defense of the homeland, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Vice President Fuat Oktay, who could not attend the event due to the intensity of his programs, and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop's congratulatory messages were then read. Afterwards, GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammed Hasan Aslan took the stage. Rector Aslan, who started his speech by reminding that GTU is one of the first 10 research universities of Turkey, established upon the academic foundations of Gebze Institute of Technology, stated that the Faculty of Aerospace, which will admit students for the first time this year, will add to the strength of the university.

GTU 2021 Academic Awards Presented to Winners

After the first lecture of the Academic Year 2021-2022 taught by Minister Varank, the GTU academic awards for the year 2021 were presented to their winners. The awards and winners are as follows: 

2021 Science Award: Prof. Dr. Ali Ekber Akgün, Department of the Science of Strategy, Faculty of Business Administration

2021 Instructors of the Year Award: Prof. Dr. Oya Erdil, Department of Management, Faculty of Business Administration; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fitnat Cimşit Koş, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture

2021 Research Incentives Award: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğul Esen, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saniye Karaman Öztaş, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture; Asst. Prof. Dr. Emel Topuz, Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

Following the end of the ceremony, Minister Varank visited the stands opened by GTU students that participated TEKNOFEST and congratulated the students on their success at TEKNOFEST. Minister Varank then visited the Dronepark on GTU campus, which has been established in partnership of Fly BVLos, Come2Türkiye, and GTU. Varank finally visited the laboratories of the Department of Chemistry and was informed about the ongoing projects.
