Teacher Training

Bringing AI to the Classroom

Project Introduction

This training, organized for high school teachers in cooperation with Gebze Technical University and Kocaeli Denizyıldızları Sectoral Center of Excellence, aims to discuss the role of AI technologies in educational processes.

The training will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sinan Akgül, Dean of GTU Faculty of Engineering, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Gizem Mutlu-Gülbak from Biruni University. Topics such as ethics, data literacy, and curriculum integration will be covered.

Impact and Outcomes

Following the seminar, working groups will be formed where each teacher can carry out practical applications under guidance, enabling them to develop in-class AI materials.

Field Program

From Campus to School: Ambassadors of Science

Project Introduction

This program, carried out by the GTU Science Communication Office, is maintained to increase high school students' interest in science and strengthen university-school cooperation.

Impact Assessment

In 2025, 10 different schools were visited, and 10 of our academics from different disciplines met with students. Showing students the connection of science with daily life, this program created a lasting impact in terms of orientation towards science.

Article Series

Academic Vision

Project Introduction

It is a special article series aiming to increase the visibility of scientific knowledge by sharing our university's research capacity and vision with the public. It prevents academic production from remaining solely within scientific circles.

Impact Assessment

Throughout 2025, articles by 15 of our academics in a wide range from biotechnology to space technologies were published. The program created a strong impact in increasing the visibility of the university.

Applied Program

Meet Science: High School Research Internship

Project Introduction

In this program organized to develop the scientific thinking skills of youth, students are directly involved in scientific data collection and experimental design stages in GTU laboratories under the supervision of academics.

Impact Assessment

126 high school students from different provinces completed a 5-day internship in our laboratories. Stating, "I learned as I observed, my curiosity increased as I learned," students emphasized the high-level motivational impact of the program.

Online Promotion Events

Project Introduction

With the principle of equal opportunity, it is organized to introduce our university to high school students in provinces who cannot access the campus and to guide them in making the right choices.

Impact Assessment

Through meetings held in 10 different provinces from Elazığ to Gümüşhane, thousands of students were provided with information about our university without being hindered by spatial boundaries.

Campus Tours

Project Introduction

These are tour programs that enable students to visit GTU laboratories and social areas on-site, meet academic units, and breathe the atmosphere of a research university.

Impact Assessment

Throughout 2025, a total of 7,869 high school students from many provinces ranging from Balıkesir to Izmir were hosted on our campus, directly influencing students' career planning.

Fair and Promotion

School Visits and Career Days

Project Introduction

These are activities where the Press and Public Relations Directorate and our academics visit schools within the scope of "Career Days" upon the invitation of high schools to promote technology and engineering applications.

Impact Assessment

Presentations made with the participation of academics from fields such as Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Aeronautical, and Mechanical Engineering have been met with high satisfaction by the schools.

Public Event

GTU Science Cafe Events

Project Introduction

Coordinated by YÖK, these are open-air conversations aimed at directly interacting with the public by taking science off-campus. It was held in Gebze city center under the title "Artificial Intelligence – Threat or Opportunity?".

Impact Assessment

The event, which took place with the Q&A participation of 42 citizens from different age and occupational groups, has become one of the most successful and concrete examples of the mission to "bring science to the streets".

Awareness Project

February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Project Introduction

In order to make female representation in science visible and to strengthen scientific career awareness among young girls, it is an event series where 7 of our female academics came together with students in 7 different schools in Kocaeli and Istanbul.

Impact Assessment

Approximately 700 high school and middle school students were reached directly during the events; it was determined that the talks held with our female academics increased the scientific self-confidence of our female students.
