1. Can I get information about applications to doctoral programmes? The student quotas of the doctoral programmes, the conditions to be sought for application, the required documents, examination programmes and deadlines are announced by the Rectorate on the university website in December and May. Applications for graduate programmes are made to the Registrar's Office until the deadline in accordance with the procedures and conditions specified in the graduate student admission announcement. Candidates make their applications electronically.
2. How can I make my final registration? Candidates who are successful in the entrance exam within the period specified in the Academic Calendar make their final registration electronically. The registration process is completed with the approval of the Student Affairs Department.
3. Can I make a transfer? Students who meet the conditions specified in the announcement conditions on the same dates as the graduate applications, who have completed at least 1 (one) semester at their affiliated University, and who have an AGPA of at least 3.25 can apply for transfer. Information about the conditions and quotas to be sought for transfer applications are announced on the web page.
4. How should I make my final registration for transfer? Students who are accepted to the programme through transfer are registered by submitting the original or certified copies of the documents specified in the announcement to the Registrar's Office.
5. How should I do my course registration? Students register for courses from the Student Information System on the dates specified in the Academic Calendar and submit them to the advisor for approval.
6. Can I take courses from a different university? Until the end of the add-drop week in the Academic Calendar, a maximum of 2 (two) courses can be taken from different universities with the recommendation of the advisor, the approval of the Programme Coordinator and / or the Head of the EABD and the decision of the EYK.
7. Can I take regular courses while I am in the scientific preparation programme? In the Scientific Preparatory Programme, a maximum of 6 (six) courses can be taken, 3 (three) courses in 1 (one) semester. These courses last for two consecutive semesters.
8. When will I be dismissed from the Scientific Preparatory Programme? Students who are not successful in the scientific preparation period (2 semesters) are dismissed with the decision of the EYK
9. I took a course from the Scientific Preparatory Programme. Do I have the right to make-up exam? There is no make-up exam for scientific preparation courses taken from undergraduate programmes.
10. Can I take courses as a Special Student? Students enrolled in graduate programmes at other higher education institutions can take courses. The application date and required documents are announced on the Graduate School web page.
11. Can I take courses under the International Student Exchange Programme? Within the scope of the exchange programmes carried out through GTU International Relations Coordination Office, courses can be taken from Higher Education Institutions abroad with the approval of the Advisor and the Head of the Department and the decision of the GSAB.
12. How can I change my counsellor? The student who is successful in the Graduate Entrance Examination is assigned an advisor by the end of the first semester at the latest with the recommendation of the Programme Executive Committee and/or the Head of the Department and the decision of the Executive Board. Within the period specified in the Academic Calendar, the application of the student and / or the current advisor, the approval of the new advisor, the recommendation of the Programme Executive Committee and / or the Head of the EABD, and the decision of the EYK. The advisor cannot be changed during the semester in which the PhD thesis will be submitted, except for force majeure.
13. When can I apply for the appointment of a thesis advisor? After the Thesis Proposal (Topic) is determined, in cases where the nature of the thesis study requires more than one thesis advisor, the Second Thesis Advisor can be appointed from within or outside the university staff with at least a doctorate degree with the recommendation of the Advisor, the approval of the Programme Coordinator and / or the Head of the EABD, and the decision of the EYK.
14. Can I get information about the Graduate Credit System and Values? At least 240 ECTS credits for those who start their doctoral studies with a master's degree, At least 300 ECTS credits are required for those who start their doctoral studies with a bachelor's degree.
15. Can I count the courses I have taken before? In the first semester of enrolment in the programme (at the course stage), an application is made to the Head of EABD with the document showing that the student has been deregistered from the graduate programme except for graduation and the transcript and course contents. Graduate programme courses are not counted.
16. Can I freeze my registration? The student may be granted a leave of absence (during military service in case of military service) for justified and valid reasons specified by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) with the opinion of the advisor, the recommendation of the Programme Coordinator and/or the Head of the EABD and the decision of the EYK.
17. I want to freeze my enrolment, when can I apply? With the documentation of the reason for the leave of absence, an application is made to the Head of the Department within the first 3 (three) weeks starting from the beginning of the semester.
18. How many courses should I take as a PhD student? At least 7 (seven) courses + Seminar Course + Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics course; At least 4 (four) of the credited courses must be taken from the programme in which the student is enrolled or from the courses offered in other programmes under the same department, at least 4 (four) of which must be courses coded 600. (At least 3 of them in English in 30% English programme)
Students admitted to the doctoral programme with a bachelor's degree must take at least 14 courses + Seminar Course + Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics course; at least 4 (four) of them must be taken from the programme they are enrolled in or from the courses offered in other programmes under the same department, at least 4 (four) of which must be courses with code 600. (At least 6 of them in English in 30% English programme)
In the English programme, all courses must be selected from English-language courses.
19. Can I learn the duration of study in the PhD Programme? For those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, excluding the period spent in scientific preparation, regardless of whether they are enrolled for each semester, it is 8 (eight) semesters and the maximum completion period is 12 (twelve) semesters; For those accepted with a bachelor's degree, it is 10 (ten) semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 (fourteen) semesters.
20. 3 (Three) My Thesis Monitoring Report is successful, I could not submit my thesis within the maximum period. What should I do when I become a student again? A student who has successfully submitted at least 3 (three) thesis monitoring reports with a grade of D from the Field of Expertise Course while he/she was a doctoral student at our university, but whose registration was deleted within the maximum period, may apply to the Department Head for application to the Department Head, provided that he/she continues with the same thesis proposal and the same advisor from whom he/she was dismissed in the first semester of registration if he/she is entitled to re-register for the same programme. Subject to the current GTU Graduate Education and Training Regulations and Senate Application Principles, the student can continue his/her education from the 9th semester with the decision of the ECYK by making course, doctoral qualification, thesis proposal and thesis monitoring adjustments with the approval of the Advisor, Programme Executive Committee and Department Head.
21. When should I apply for the doctoral qualifying exam? Students who want to take the qualifying exam in the autumn semester must apply for the qualifying exam within the first 2 (two) weeks of December, and students who want to take the qualifying exam in the spring semester must apply for the qualifying exam within the first 2 (two) weeks of May. Doctoral qualifying exams are held in January for the autumn semester and in June for the spring semester.
22. When should I take the doctoral qualifying exam? In order for the student to take the doctoral qualifying exam, he / she must successfully complete at least 7 Lectures + Seminar Course + Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics course and have an AGNO of at least 3.00. Students admitted with a master's degree must take the qualifying exam at the earliest at the end of the 2nd semester and at the end of the 5th semester at the latest,
Students who are admitted with a bachelor's degree must successfully complete at least 14 Courses + Seminar Course + Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics courses and have an AGNO of at least 3.00 and must take the qualifying exam at the end of the 4th semester at the earliest and the 7th semester at the latest. 23. How many people should the doctoral qualifying exam jury consist of? Qualifying Examination Juries are determined for each student in order to prepare, implement and evaluate the exams. The exam jury consists of 5 (five) faculty members, including the advisor, at least 2 of whom are from outside the university.
24. I failed the qualifying written / oral exam. Which stage should I take the exam from? The student who fails the qualifying exam is taken the exam again in the next exam period. The student who does not apply for this exam, does not apply and take the exam, or takes the exam and fails is dismissed from the doctoral programme.
25. When and how should I form the thesis monitoring committee? For the student who is successful in the qualifying exam, a thesis monitoring committee is formed within one month at the latest with the recommendation of the advisor, programme coordinator and/or the Head of the EABD and the decision of the EYK. The Thesis Monitoring Committee consists of 3 (three) faculty members. In addition to the thesis advisor, the committee includes one member from within and outside the relevant EABD.
26. When should I make my thesis proposal defence? After the student who is successful in the qualifying exam registers for the Specialised Field Course in the following semester, the PhD Thesis Proposal defence is held on the dates specified in the academic calendar in December-January/June-July.
27. How many days in advance should I submit my Thesis Proposal Report to the Thesis Committee? The written report of the thesis proposal must be submitted to the Thesis Monitoring Committee Members at least 15 (fifteen) days before the oral defence.
28. When will I be dismissed if I do not submit my thesis proposal? The student who fails to submit his/her thesis proposal for 2 (two) consecutive times in due time or who is found unsuccessful by the Thesis Monitoring Committee is dismissed.
29. I made my Thesis Proposal Defence, how many days should I submit the report? The Minutes and Report are submitted to the Graduate School via the Head of EABD within 3 working days.
30. When should I do my PhD Thesis Monitoring? For the student whose thesis proposal is accepted, the Thesis Monitoring Committee meets twice a year, once in December-January / June-July.
31. How many days in advance should I submit my Thesis Monitoring Report to the Thesis Monitoring Committee? Thesis Monitoring written report must be submitted to the members of the Thesis Monitoring Committee at least 30 (thirty) days before the oral defence.
32. Will I be dismissed if I do not submit a thesis monitoring report? The student who fails to submit the thesis monitoring report 2 (two) times in a row or 3 (three) times intermittently / who is found unsuccessful by the Thesis Monitoring Committee is dismissed.
33. I submitted my Thesis Monitoring Report, how many days should I submit the report? The Minutes and Report are submitted to the Graduate School via the Head of EABD within 3 working days.
34. When can I enter the PhD Defence? In order to enter the thesis defence, at least 3 (three) Thesis Monitoring Committee reports must be successful, at least 1 (one) original / complete article produced from the doctoral thesis must be published and / or the acceptance letter from the editor must be received.
35. How many people should the Doctoral Thesis Jury consist of? It consists of 5 (five) faculty members, at least two of whom must be from outside their own higher education institution, including the Thesis Monitoring Committee. Thesis jury members are appointed by the decision of the EYK upon the recommendation of the Doctorate Programme Coordinator and / or the Head of the EABD.
36. A Correction Decision was made about my thesis, do I have to take the defence again? The thesis is defended again in front of the same jury by making the necessary corrections within 6 (six) months at the latest. The Joint Jury report is forwarded to the Department.
37. When can I graduate after my doctoral defence? A student who is successful in the thesis defence submits 1 (one) bound copy of the doctoral thesis and 2 (two) CDs covering the entire thesis, Thesis Writing Compliance Report, Jury Approval Form, Thesis Data Entry Form, Disassociation Form, Current Plagiarism Report to the Graduate School within 1 (one) month at the latest. The Board of Directors decides on graduation.
38. When can I receive my diploma? Diplomas are prepared by the Student Affairs Department. It is announced on the web page.
