1. What is Urban and Regional Planning? Urban and Regional Planning is the design of spaces in cities in line with environmental, economic, social, cultural and technological developments, ensuring the planned development of cities, determining the development policies and tools of regions and countries.
2. Are computer programs taught in your department? Apart from Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD, NetCAD for plans; ArcGIS for analysis; Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for layouts are the main programs used. In the future, it is aimed to integrate software coding and artificial intelligence into the education.
3. Where can we work after graduation? There are opportunities to work in metropolitan municipalities, district municipalities, various public institutions, especially the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, international organizations such as the World Bank, the United Nations, governorships, development agencies, private planning offices, architectural and urban design offices, real estate appraisal and development firms, research institutes, non-governmental organizations and academia.
4. What are the different fields we can pursue after graduating from the department? Urban Planning, Urban Design, Regional Development and Planning, Rural Area Planning and Design, Urban Conservation and Renewal, Smart Cities / Smart Cities, History of Urbanism, Zoning Law, Urban Identity and Quality Assessment, Urban Transportation Planning, Strategic Planning, Recreation Management, Disaster and Risk Management, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Environmental Planning, Tourism Planning, Urbanization Policy, Real Estate Economics, Artificial Intelligence Supported Virtual Space Designs, Real Estate Valuation.
5. Are there double major and minor opportunities? Our department does not have a double major program yet. Preparations have started to start a double major program with departments closely related to planning.
6. Can I open my own office after graduation? Yes, you can.
7. What kind of work do you do with students outside of the courses? In the last 3 years, our department has received the most awards in national urban design and planning competitions among planning schools. We achieved this with our students. These competition experiences give our students a serious competitive advantage in their job search processes after graduation. We think that it is a great opportunity for students to meet with such an experience at the education stage. We aim to increase the number of competitions and professional practices that we participate in with our students.
8. Is there an English preparatory class in your department? Since our department's medium of instruction is Turkish, there is no compulsory preparatory class.
9. Is there an Erasmus program? Since our education language is Turkish, we do not have an agreement within the scope of Erasmus student mobility. However, we provide the opportunity to do internship abroad within the scope of Erasmus internship mobility.
10. Is there a possibility of transfer? Our department does not yet have the opportunity to transfer between internal programs. For external transfer opportunities, you can review the Undergraduate Programs Transfer Directive of our university.
11. Is there an internship requirement in your department? Yes, there is. At the end of the 2nd and 3rd semester, we expect our students to do 2 compulsory internships. One of these internships is done in a public institution. Thus, our students start to create professional connections during the internship phase. We have many students who started to work after graduation in the place where they did their internship.
12. Is the training face-to-face? Most of the education is face-to-face. Depending on the nature of the course, some courses may be taught online in some weeks in order to be supported by technological facilities.
13. Is it costly to study in the department? While studying in the Department of City and Regional Planning, it is necessary to create a budget for some costs other than the costs of student life. Due to the use of computer-aided drawing programs, it is necessary to allocate a budget for project models and sheet printouts in addition to the laptop computer. These costs apply to all planning schools.
14. Do you organize field trips in the department? Field trips to different cities are organized every semester within the scope of project courses, information about the city is obtained from institutions and organizations, and analysis and survey studies are carried out in the city.
15. Can you give information about your academic staff? All academicians in our department have completed their doctoral education in schools that are among the top 500 universities in the World University Rankings.
16. Are there student clubs? There are many student societies within our university that contribute to the social and cultural development of our students and operate in different fields. The City and Development Club, which was established within our department, is one of them. Our students working within the club organize many activities during the semester in cooperation with our academicians. |
