GTU Hosts the Second Alumni Gathering of the Year on Its Sustainable Green Campus

The second alumni gathering of the year was held at Gebze Technical University (GTU), on its sustainable green campus—serving as a bridge to pass on institutional culture and strengthen connections between alumni, students, academics, and the university itself.

The event was attended by GTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Prof. Dr. Lutfihak Alpkan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Osman Boyraz, GTU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Işıl Kurnaz, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş, and Prof. Dr. Hasari Çelebi, as well as alumni and their families, GTU students, and academic and administrative staff.

The gathering consisted of two parts: one at the GTU Congress and Culture Center, and the other spread across various campus areas. The event began with an opening speech by Rector Prof. Dr. Hacı Ali Mantar, who emphasized the importance of alumni engagement for universities and expressed his belief that such gatherings would become more frequent and embedded in GTU’s culture. He also highlighted the efforts of the newly established Alumni Office in enhancing alumni interaction.

Rector Mantar stressed that despite being a young university, GTU stands strong in education and research, is internationally recognized, and upholds global standards. He stated:
"GTU is leading some of the most important projects in Turkey. We are on par with the top universities worldwide. We value the unity of our academic staff, students, and alumni—this unity is crucial for student motivation, addressing institutional shortcomings, expanding collaborations, and ensuring sustainability. We will continue our efforts to strengthen this bond. Many of our alumni already support us in both financial and moral terms, and we believe this support will continue to grow."

Following the Rector's address, GTU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Durmuş gave a presentation evaluating the university’s current status. The ceremony concluded with a plaque presentation to alumni celebrating their 25th graduation anniversary.

For the second part of the gathering, alumni came together in the outdoor dining areas, enjoying the charm of the sustainable green campus. They ended the day with joyful conversations among friends, family, and professors.
