Press and Publication Policies

 

Gebze Technical University (GTU) adopts a transparent, accurate, and ethical communication policy in the field of press and public relations. This policy ensures that the University’s academic and administrative activities are conveyed to the public in an effective and accurate manner. GTU adheres to national and international principles of journalism and seeks to uphold its institutional reputation and academic integrity.

 

In line with this policy, GTU’s press and publication principles are as follows:

• News Dissemination Platforms: University-related news is shared accurately and promptly via the official website, electronic publications, social media accounts, and press outlets.

• The 5W1H Principle: All news items comprehensively address the questions “What, Where, When, How, Why, and Who,” avoiding ambiguous or vague expressions.

• Newsworthiness: Priority is given to publishing news that is of public interest and that provides academic, social, or scientific value and information.

• Content Accuracy: Decisions, events, academic achievements, and scientific projects related to GTU are presented with accurate and complete information.

• Attracting Media Attention: Press releases are prepared in a professional format, supported by compelling headlines and concrete data.

• No Publication of Unverified Content: News items that are not finalized or lack official backing are not published; only verified information is used.

• Avoidance of Gratitude Expressions: News content refrains from including thank-you notes to individuals or institutions, maintaining a formal and neutral tone.

• Protocol Order: Official protocol order is followed in the structuring of news content.

• Institutional Emphasis: The name of the University is explicitly mentioned in news headlines and introductory sentences to affirm GTU as the central entity.

• Reputation and Public Information: Priority is given to news that enhances the University's reputation and informs the public effectively.

• Editorial Standards: News is written in accordance with journalistic and press agency standards, using clear and impartial language.

• Final Approval: Each news item must be approved by the relevant unit or authorized personnel prior to publication.

• National Media Coverage: News prepared for national press is crafted with greater attention and presented as exclusive or feature stories.

• Language and Style Guidelines: Spelling and punctuation rules set by the Turkish Language Association are followed, and Turkish equivalents are preferred over foreign terms.

• Sensitivity and Ethical Standards: News content is prepared in alignment with ethical values, avoiding discriminatory language or hate speech.

• Accuracy and Credibility: All news is based on verified facts and reliable sources.

• Source Citation: Academic and scientific news includes proper and complete source citations.

• Visual Content Guidelines: Images used in news items are of high quality, relevant to the content, and compliant with copyright regulations.

• Monitoring and Feedback: The impact of published news is monitored, and feedback is used to improve future processes.

 

GTU continuously enhances the transparency and effectiveness of its press and publication policies to ensure the accurate and efficient dissemination of information to the public.
