Overview

 

City and Regional Planning, in a broader sense, spatial planning is the process of producing decisions for the spatial organization of human settlements of different scales by investigating the principles of sustainable spatial development with their economic, social, cultural, technological and environmental dimensions. Analysis of current and future trends, challenges and opportunities affecting spatial development models and quality of urban life, the process of developing spatial development strategies for the solution of urban problems; it requires a strategic and participatory approach that includes setting visions, goals and strategies, action programs and priorities, implementing plans, and monitoring and evaluating their impacts.

 

In the education and training process, it is aimed to bring our students to our profession as effective planners who protect the ethical values of planning, protect the society and public interest, cover different segments of the society, and take responsibilities in active and participatory planning processes based on cooperation and interaction.

 

In our departmental studies, where we aim to produce creative and innovative planning solutions in a research-oriented, interdisciplinary perspective for spatial planning education, research and applications on an international and national scale, our basic approach is to preserve traditional planning principles and integrate them with new planning approaches on a global scale. In this context, innovative and creative cities, artificial intelligence applications in planning, information technologies and data management, sustainable urban mobility, regenerative urban systems, eco-innovative solutions, biodiversity conservation and protected area management, ecosystem services, climate change adaptation strategies, urban resilience, disaster management, social sustainability, protection of historical and cultural heritage, spirit of place and philosophy of science are our main areas of interest.
