Established within Gebze Technical University, the Cultural Heritage Conservation Implementation and Research Center (KMA-BKM) aims to conduct scientific and educational studies by considering both the built and natural environment as well as the intangible aspects of cultural heritage. The center’s primary goal is to raise awareness of cultural heritage in society and to work towards the research, documentation, and preservation of all forms of tangible and intangible heritage.
KMA-BKM operates on the principle of interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together fields such as architectural conservation and restoration, architectural history, art history, archaeology, and history while facilitating knowledge exchange with relevant academic communities. In addition to providing academic support to the related undergraduate and graduate programs at Gebze Technical University, the center establishes archives for the research, documentation, and preservation of cultural heritage and makes its existing archive accessible to researchers. It also conducts projects on researching and reinterpreting intangible cultural heritage through contemporary designs.
The center aims to develop solutions using modern technology for the sustainability of cultural heritage and its integration into contemporary life. In this context, it develops projects focused on the sustainability of urban and rural heritage sites and creates cultural routes. KMA-BKM prioritizes sharing its research through scientific publications and events and values collaboration with national and international stakeholders. Additionally, it carries out documentation and restoration work for the preservation of historical monuments and sites while providing consultancy services in these areas. The center envisions becoming a leading institution in the research, documentation, and preservation of cultural heritage. |
