What is Environmental Management Unit? The Environmental Management Unit is the unit responsible for all waste management and environmental protection processes of Gebze Technical University. It is responsible to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and its provincial organisations for the management of all wastes of the university and their execution in accordance with legal regulations. This unit coordinates all processes from sorting waste at source to recycling and disposal.
What does it do? The Environmental Management Unit operates in accordance with the Environmental Law No. 2872 dated 09/08/1983, the Waste Regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 29314 and the Zero Waste Regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 30829 dated 12/07/2019. It ensures that waste management processes at the University are implemented in accordance with these legal regulations. Its duties include the management of hazardous and recyclable wastes, disposal without harming the environment and human health, preparation of waste management plans and ensuring disposal processes in accordance with legal regulations.
Why is there such a unit? The Environmental Management Unit was established to ensure the implementation of the Environmental Law and related legislation within the university. It aims to reduce environmental impacts and use resources efficiently by contributing to sustainable development goals. At the same time, it ensures that legal requirements are fulfilled and environmental management is maintained effectively by working in harmony with the relevant ministries and local organisations.
