General Information

The laboratory specializes in the characterization of the chemical and physical properties of materials.

Applications

• Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) measurements: Determination of the elemental composition of materials through optical emission analysis.

• In-depth Chemical Composition Analysis: Identification of the chemical composition on the surface and interface of bulk materials such as metals, alloys, ceramics, glasses, polymer coatings, and semiconductors.

• Nano and Micro-Scale Surface Topography Measurements: Examination of surface roughness and texture using 2D line-profile roughness measurements and 3D surface mapping.

• Thin Film Thickness, Depth, and Stress Measurements: Analysis of the thickness, depth profile, and internal stresses of thin films and coatings.

• Wear and Scratch Testing: Evaluation of material resistance to wear and scratches, including depth, area, and volume calculations using Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy (GDOES).

• Adhesion Strength Measurements: Assessment of the bonding strength of coatings on various substrates, including sintered ceramic materials.

• Wear Testing of Materials: Measurement of average friction coefficient, wear rate of the test sample, and wear rate of the counter-body (test ball).

• Thickness Analysis of Metallic or Non-Metallic Coatings: Determination of the thickness of metallic or ceramic-based coatings on metal surfaces, including average thickness, standard deviation, and min/max thickness values.

• Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) Thermal Analysis: Investigation of thermal properties such as phase transformations, glass transition temperature, crystallization, melting, oxidation stability, heat capacity, and recrystallization temperature.
