July 27, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations — The COP31 Preparatory Workshop organized by the GTU Sustainability Office highlighted the university's scientific contributions to combating climate change and its interdisciplinary collaborations.
The GTU COP31 Preparatory Workshop was held on July 24, 2026, in Hall 4 of the Congress and Cultural Center, organized by the GTU Sustainability Coordination Office. The workshop was organized to bring together the university's scientific studies in the field of climate change, strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations, and evaluate GTU's potential contributions to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), which will be held in Antalya in November 2026, ahead of the conference.
As part of the event, participants were informed about the priority thematic areas of COP31 and the roles universities can play in this process. This was followed by presentations of national and international projects carried out by faculty members, researchers, and graduate students from different faculties, institutes, and research groups. The workshop featured presentations on a wide range of topics, including climate change, remote sensing and artificial intelligence applications, marine and coastal ecosystems, sustainable water management, food security, clean energy, green industrialization, smart campus applications, sustainable finance, and environmental sustainability.
While demonstrating how their research relates to the thematic areas of COP31, participants also shared the innovative projects and solution proposals they have developed to combat climate change. In addition, they exchanged ideas on participating in international research networks, developing new project partnerships, and increasing GTU's scientific visibility under COP31.
The workshop brought together researchers from different disciplines on a common platform, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience while also contributing to the development of new collaboration opportunities among research activities conducted across the university. At the end of the event, it was emphasized that the outcomes of the workshop would help guide GTU's COP31 preparation process, support the development of joint research areas, and constitute an important step toward enhancing the university's role in international climate studies.
The GTU Sustainability Coordination Office thanked all faculty members, researchers, and students who participated in the workshop and shared their knowledge, experience, and projects, expressing its hope that collaborative efforts in the fields of sustainability and climate change will continue to grow in the coming period. |
